The design of this beech wood fishing boat containing 12 acrylic painted beechwood fish and a wooden fisherman is derived from a piece I made in the 1980s that was exhibited in the Musee des Arts Decoratif in the Louvre in Paris, being acquired for their Le Jouet de Bois exhibition, winter 1987. This boat is smaller than the original that was designed as a children's puzzle.
The wood is cut from 1.5 inch thick planks of beech 8 feet long and a foot wide. The 12 different sized fish are cut separately from the decks but fit perfectly into each section. The fisherman is carved from American cherry wood in 2 halves that are glued together to increase strength.
Length 115mm (4.5 inch)
Width 60mm (2.5 inch)
Height 90mm (3.5 inch)
Weight c.156g (5.5 oz)
The fish are airbrush painted on both sides with acrylics using hand cut stencils and finished with acrylic lacquer.
It is intended as an heirloom object/ornament. It is not intended as a toy. It contains small parts that present a choking danger for children under 3 years old.
