This is one of my favourite pieces. The figure is carved from lime wood and painted with acrylics. Even the beads are specially made from beechwood.
The mechanism depends on a Geneva Wheel to shift between 5 scenes as the lady combs her hair, smiles with pleasure, looks forward and then is delighted as she looks in the mirror. There are some small touches like the animated breathing and moving eyes which add to the illusion.
The mechanism is fully wooden with pine and beech being the main materials.
The pictures show a reworked example with the addition of brass bearings. I was able to upgrade this automaton because I originally did not glue the joints. I have now added a chain cog for motorisation (this piece is on the way to South Korea for motorisation) and the crank handle can be unscrewed so in the future it can still be maintained.
